FamilyStatement of Intention – Piece II  This piece had its beginning in the “Family” exercise. It was a difficult time for me as my youngest was in hospital. I found the question “Would you give something up if it was detrimental to you family?” disturbing. Further more, there were two glaring omissions from my list: Love and Security. I began to ruminate on what my notions of family actually were.   
I decided to use the journal entry format as way of exploring and structuring my personal feelings and thoughts. I’ve always had difficulty with journals and thought it might be an additional challenge. To this end, the audience is mys Family

Laughing BubbaShe woke and stretched like a cat then pulled the sheets up higher before letting out a small sigh. She threw back the covers and padded out to the kitchen. He woke and saw the empty place in bed and knew at once he should worry about it. He turned over away from the sight and thought through his half sleep what she might be doing.  
 
“Tea-Coffee?” She called. “I need to leave soon my bubba. This is a treat for you no?”   
The kitchen noises seemingly receded as his thoughts drifted. He thought back to the night they had first met in that smoke laden jazz bar. Somehow they had woken the next morning to find each other in Laughing Bubba

Basically a bit of classic SciFi and sort of Bradbury's era ... I'm pretty sure Day of the Triffids and The Midwich Cuckoos ware made into movies (possibly even The Kraken Wakes). His books are reasonably short but I don't mind that as I think a lot of SciFi/Fantasy writers are paid by the kilo rather than content these days. His books are well written and don't over burden/play the concepts. My Fave is The Chrysalids (a childs's journey to safety in a post appocalyptic world) and The Trouble with Lichen runs a close second (was kinda funny as I recall but it's been a loooong time since I've ready any of his books).

If you want something rather darker and a bit more in the vein of American Gods you could allways try Phillip Jose Farmer.
